Sunday, July 14, 2019 • Ventura, CA • Course Map
With a flat, ocean front course, the Shoreline Half Marathon offers a perfect race for a summer PR. Runners will enjoy Pacific Ocean views the entire course and the out-and-back style course is great for fast race.
However, the race’s generous 4-hour course time limit allows walkers to get in on the fun as well.
Runners will line up at Emma Wood State Beach Group Campground, just past the RV park in Ventura to start. They head north along the boardwalk and through Emma Wood State Beach before heading west along the bike path.
The course will offer views of the Pacific to the left as runners make their way to the turnaround point.
Just past mile 6, runners make a u-turn past Faria Beach and travel back along the same course towards the start/finish line. With the Ventura Freeway on the left and the ocean on the right, racers will get a perfect glimpse of this coastal California city all the way back to the finish line back at the campground.
This race will feature a wave start in 2 minute intervals to allow for enough spacing along the course. Runners will line up behind the banner with the pace that is most suited to what they are capable of on race day. All runners will receive a finisher medal and tech t-shirt.
Stick around after the race for the post-race party. Runners will receive a free beer and a plate of street tacos. Root beer is available for the non-imbibers and friends and family can purchase food and drink tickets for just $4.
Race Weather & Climate
Ventura has a Mediterranean climate that is typical of many coastal California cities. July temperatures average in the upper 50’s for the lows and lower 70’s for the highs. The ocean breeze can have a considerable cooling effect and the Santa Ana winds can cause dramatic temperature changes.
Don’t worry about getting wet as rain is a rarity in July with only 0.02” as a monthly average. On race day (Jul. 14), the average low is 59ºF and the average high is 72ºF.
