Surfers Point Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Sunday, September 8, 2024 • Ventura, CA • Course Map

Lined with palm trees along the Southern California coastline, Ventura’s Promenade Park serves as the race start and finish line area for the Surfers Point Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, which is set to make its 11th annual running this year on a course that will serve as a Boston Marathon qualifying race.

The course is very flat and walker-friendly, organizers say, adding that it features a 7-hour course time limit for the full marathon. Most of the race takes place either within shouting distance of the beachfront or along the beachfront itself, as the race will start at the Emma Wood State Beach Group Campground in Seaside Wilderness Park.

From there, the half marathon route starts runners off by heading northwest, turning onto the bike path that winds through Emma Wood State Beach/Seaside Wilderness Park.

The course keeps runners on the bike path for the next mile, and turns onto the Old Rincon Highway just before runners pass the mile 1 marker, still overlooking the shoreline.

Runners head northwest along the Old Rincon Highway and stay on the highway for the next few miles, until they reach the half-way turnaround point of the race near Javon Canyon. Then, they turn around and retrace their steps all the way back to the campground and the finish line. Full marathoners run this course twice to complete their 26.2 miles, while half marathoners begin celebrating here.

Expect a fast and mostly flat run with plenty of breeze from the Pacific Ocean — the lowest elevation along the course is about 10 feet above sea level, while the highest (between miles 1 and 2) hits just under 40 feet above sea level.
