Spirit Trail Run Marathon, Half Marathon, & 8k

As a family-run business since 2014, the Spirit Trail Run Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8k have turned into a fun but challenging annual community event in beautiful Buena Vista, Colorado.

Challenging Course, Scenic Views, Trail Runners. Defined by rolling hills, technical routes, and scenic views, the Spirit Trail Run Half Marathon course has been carefully designed and well-supported to ensure the best experience for runners and hikers alike.

The city of Buena Vista itself makes for an incredible racing destination. With idyllic mountainous views in a mountain town setting, and during a time when the state is welcoming spring, there’s no better opportunity to discover Colorado!

Starting and ending near Eddyline Brewery and Surf Hotel on S Main Street near Front Loop, the half-marathon race begins by sending runners along the Arkansas River Trail before quickly edging onto Ramsour Road.

From there, it’s an immediate deviation back onto the trail system for a rollercoaster of ups, downs, twists, and turns. At mile 7.5 it’s off the trail system and onto the Country Road 304.

For the final mile, it’s back onto Arkansas River Trail before reaching the finish line back where it all started.

There are three aid stations throughout the half marathon course, so it’s encouraged to come prepared with more fuel should you require it. All aid stations will have ice-cold water, soda, and electrolyte beverages, along with pretzels, fruit, cookies, and gels!

At the finish line, participants can expect an award ceremony, a host of food and drink by several local vendors, and of course, a celebration worth sticking around for.

Race Weather & Climate

In central Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Buena Vista is about 75 miles southwest of Colorado Springs, providing an idyllic mountain town setting.

May 26 in Buena Vista, Colorado welcomes the arrival of spring. High temperatures typically reach around 65°F, creating a pleasant atmosphere for outdoor exploration. As the day transitions into the evening, temperatures cool down to approximately 38°F, reminding you that the mountains still carry a touch of chill. Rainfall remains relatively low, with an average of 0.7 inches, making it a good day for outdoor activities like hiking or taking in stunning mountain views.
