The race starts on Waltham Street, just a stone’s throw from where the finish line lies on First Avenue, and then takes runners on what is roughly a clockwise loop around this eastern Massachusetts town, a suburb of Boston that’s home to just over 22,000 residents. Tree-lined residential streets alternate with stretches past open parkland, including a stretch late in the race that takes runners through Wilmington’s Central Park Conservation Area, and the early miles feature the race’s biggest hills.
