Runners start the out-and-back loop course for the half marathon in the heart of Amherst, on the University of Massachusetts campus, where Massachusetts Avenue and Presidents Drive meet. From there, the course heads in a counter-clockwise direction through town, along Route 116 and then onto Shay Street, toward the South Amherst Common before turning onto the Norwottuck Rail Trail. After just over a mile on the trail, the course continues north along East Street, and then heads back around to campus for the race finish.
