Runners follow an out-and-back course for the half marathon that starts and finishes at the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Memorial, along the Cape Fear River. From there, the course takes runners north and heads across the Isabel Holmes Bridge into nearby Wilmington, where it heads all the way through downtown and then makes a loop around Greenfield Lake. With the exception of the bridge crossings — there’s a second bridge in the final mile of the race — most of the course is flat and fast.
