Runners start the out-and-back course for the Best Dam Run & Walk in Vermont just to the west of Whitingham in Vermont’s Deerfield Valley, at the southern end of the Harriman Reservoir overlooking the dam. From there, the race unfolds along the old Hoot, Toot & Whistle railroad bed along the western side of the reservoir, all the way north to the half-way turnaround point, just across the Deerfield River from Castle Hill. After that, the race heads back in the opposite direction to the finish line at the dam.
