Runners follow a point-to-point route along the crushed limestone trails of the Butler-Freeport Community Trail for the Buffalo Creek Half Marathon, which starts in the small Western Pennsylvania town of Cabot and finishes in nearby Freeport. Along the way, the route follows a mostly steady downhill descent from Cabot to the finish line, starting at an elevation of about 1,320 feet above sea level and descending to about 780 feet by the time runners reach the finish line.
