Runners follow an out-and-back course for the half marathon that takes them east from the beaches of Santa Cruz County all the way east toward the nearby city of Capitola, where runners make the turnaround loop just before reaching Esplanade Park. From there, they head all the way back along East Cliff and Opal Cliff Drive back to Santa Cruz, with views of the Pacific Ocean nearly the entire route, for the race finish on the beach.
