Runners start the out-and-back course for the half marathon in Crooked River along the AP Carter Highway (Highway 614), about halfway between Hiltons and Mendota. From there, the course first heads southwest along the highway to the first turnaround point just past Barkers Chapel Church, between miles 1 and 2. After they make the turn, runners then head back in the direction from which they came, all the way through Mendota and over the North Fork of the Holston River to the second turnaround point, before heading back to the Lodge at Crooked River for the race finish.
