The trails along the Dan River that flows through this southern Virginia town make up most of the 13.1-mile route at the mid-autumn Danville Half Marathon, which makes for a largely fast and flat course. The only significant exception are some challenging hills in the second half of the half marathon route, which starts and finishes at Main Street Plaza along the river, and also features a loop around the riverside edge of Anglers Park in the second half of the race.
