Runners follow a 13.1-mile point-to-point route at the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Half Marathon, which starts at the mid-way point of the full marathon just outside Dumont and continues north along the trail of the same name all the way to the race finish line in Deadwood. With the exception of a gradual uphill over the first mile of the half marathon, the rest of the course follows a long, very gradual downhill descent into the finish.
