Runners start the out-and-back course for the Death Valley Trail Half Marathon along Scotty’s Castle Road, just north of Stovepipe Wells and the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. From there, they’ll follow Titus Canyon Road for the entirety of the half marathon route, which follows a long, gradual uphill that climbs more than 2,000 feet in elevation between the starting line and the half-way point. After that, they’ll retrace their steps back to Scotty’s Castle Road for the race finish.
