The Des Plaines River Trail Races Half Marathon course takes runners an out-and-back route that starts and finishes in the Half Day Forest Preserve, one of the several forest and prairie areas within Lake County Forest Preserve near Lincolnshire, Illinois. From there, the race runs alongside the Des Plaines River for most of the race here just outside Chicago. Most of the course is run on fast, flat and paved terrain on the trails that wind along the river, and runners also make six bridge crossings over the river during the course of the half marathon.
