Runners start the out-and-back course for the Deschutes River Half Marathon in front of Maupin’s Imperial River Company, a whitewater rafting and boating guide company on the banks of the river. From there, the race leads out onto the BLM access road and follows the winding route of the river as it snakes its way northward, all the way to the half-way point near the Sandy Beach recreation site. After that, you’ll turn around and head back in the opposite direction along the route you’ve just run, all the way back to the Imperial River Company.
