The out-and-back loop course for the Grand Island Trail Half Marathon starts and finishes at William’s Landing, at the southern tip of the island. From there, the race takes runners on a tour of Michigan’s Grand Island National Recreation Area, which is maintained in as primitive and natural a state as possible. The race runs along dirt forest roads, shoreline trails, white sand beaches and atop its sandstone cliffs, and is considered ideal for trail runners who are just getting into the sport.
