Nearly all of the course for Nauvoo’s Great River Road Run Half Marathon keeps runners alongside the banks of the Mississippi River — on the Illinois side — as the race starts at the marina next to Wildcat Springs Park in Hamilton, Ill., and finishes roughly 13 miles to the north in Nauvoo State Park. With the exceptional of some occasional minor hills, most of the race route is fast and flat thanks to its location along the river, and nearly all of the race keeps the field on Route 96 between the race start and finish lines.
