The Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon course takes runners on an out-and-back loop that starts at the Cedar Park Center, an indoor arena just off Highway 138A here in this suburb of Austin, which lies about 16 miles to the south. From the starting line, runners head into the residential neighborhoods between New Hope Drive and Hero Way, passing by Tomlinson Park and the South Fork of Brushy Creek along the way. The race starts at about 973 feet above sea level and hits a peak elevation (between miles 4 and 5) of 1,025 feet, for an overall elevation gain during the race of about 390 feet.
