From the starting line on Route 156, the Hills and Hollows Half Marathon course follows an out-and-back loop course through — you guessed it — the “hills and hollows” of the countryside just outside Valmeyer, with nearly 500 feet of elevation change over the course of the race. From the starting line on Meyer Avenue near the American Legion hall, the race features long stretches that take runners through the Mississippi River floodplain, an area that saw severe flooding back in the early 1990s and has been rebuilt today.
