Fast and largely flat, the course for the Hilton Head Island Half Marathon takes runners and walkers from the starting line at the island’s Jarvis Creek Park along mostly paved roads and a few bike trails. The race’s only real hills occur at the bridge over Broad Creek, between the mile 5 and 6 markers — runners in the half-marathon cross the bridge twice during the race, on the way out in the first half and a second time on the return route back along Highway 278.
