Runners start the out-and-back course for the half marathon in front of the Des Moines Civic Center on 3rd Street, across from Cowles Commons. From there, the course first heads west and south, taking runners all the way around Gray’s Lake and then up to the Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, which they’ll follow over the bridge across the Des Moines River. There’s three more bridge crossings before you’ll make your way back to the civic center for the race finish.
