Runners start the out-and-back course for the Leaf Peepers Half Marathon in downtown Waterbury near the state complex, just off Main Street. From there, the race heads south of down and then northwest along River Road to the turnaround point in North Duxbury, following the Winooski River for much of the course. There, runners turn around and retrace most of their steps to the finish line.
