Runners follow an out-and-back course for the Mermaid Run Half Marathon, which starts and finishes near the parking area of Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, about an hour’s drive east from downtown San Francisco. From there, runners head along the lakeside, across the Sequoia Bridge and along the Alameda Creek Trail, for a long out-and-back stretch that turns around just south of Alvarado Boulevard. The finish line lies at the Ensenada Picnic Area inside the park.
