Runners head north along what is basically a long, gradual uphill to the halfway point, followed by a long and equally gradual downhill run back in to the finish line in the Alaskan port city of Valdez at the Mineral Creek Half Marathon, most of which unfolds along an unpaved gravel road alongside Mineral Creek here just to the west of the city. Cloudy, gray and possibly rainy weather is a possibility this time of year, so runners should be prepared for inclement weather.
