Organized by the same group that puts on the Big Sur International Marathon each spring, the Monterey Bay Half Marathon takes place in the fall and actually doesn’t run through Big Sur — it runs around the coastline of Monterey and Pacific Grove, about an hour’s drive north of Big Sur Park. The course still offers spectacular scenery along the rocky California coastline, from Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium to the Point Pinos Lighthouse and Asilomar State Beach.
