Both the half marathon and the 10K race start and finish in Illinois’s 2,200-acre Moraine Hills State Park, in the area of the park known as the Northern Woods, which lies near the northwestern corner of Lake Defiance. From there, runners head around the perimeter of the lake and continue on along the trail toward the McHenry Dam, in the southwestern section of the park. The terrain changes in different sections of the park, and runners can expect both paved and natural-surface bike trails.
