While runners can expect mostly fast and flat terrain over the first few miles of the Nittany Valley Half Marathon, the second half of the 13.1-mile route offers up something else entirely. Steep downhill stretches along Fox Hill Road and Rock Road are followed by a big uphill stretch later in the race, as runners are making their way along Orchard Road back toward the finish line on the Penn State campus. The biggest uphill stretch occurs between miles 3 and 5, while the biggest downhill lies between mile markers 8 and 9.
