Runners start the out-and-back course for the race along Irvin Garrish Highway, the main road that spans the length of this tiny island along North Carolina’s Outer Banks. From there, the course heads out onto Irvin Garrish for a long out-and-back stretch to the National Park Service campground and back. After that, they’ll head back into the town of Ocracoke and see the Ocracoke Island Lighthouse, the second-oldest lighthouse in operation in the U.S. After several turns through neighborhoods in the town, runners return to the finish line in the heart of downtown.
