Runners start the out-and-back loop route for the Races For All Paces Half Marathon on the campus of East Illinois University, just east of Mattoon and just south of Charleston, next to the O’Brien Field track and field facility. From there, the race winds through campus for its first mile and a half, and then heads out onto the rural roads south of the university, where the biggest uphills and downhills will be found. The course brings runners all the way back to O’Brien Field on campus for the race finish.
