Runners make their way through some of the most pristine and unspoiled regions of the Mojave Desert just west of Las Vegas at the annual late winter/early spring Red Rock Marathon & Half Marathon, which uses the same course as the early fall Twilight Red Rock Half Marathon & Overlook Ascent. The race starts at the park visitor center and follows the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop for all of its 13 miles up and around the basin that lies between the Calico Hills.
