Thanks to its near-sea-level location along the roads that run alongside San Diego Bay, most of the San Diego Half Marathon route is fast and flat. Runners will start the race at Petco Park, near the city’s downtown and just blocks from Balboa Park. From there, runners will head northwest along the bay through the city, running for a loop around Harbor Island and into the Liberty Station district, where they’ll make the turnaround and then head back into downtown, followed by the finish line under the Gaslamp Arch.
