Runners start the point-to-point course for the Shenandoah Half Marathon just south of Luray in Hawksbill Recreation Park, along Pool Drive. From there, the course follows an overall uphill climb that organizers say is “challenging,” rising nearly 500 feet in elevation between the lowest point and the highest point on the route. You’ll run along quiet rural roads with views of the foothills of the Shenandoah Valley all around, all the way to the lake at Lake Arrowhead Recreation Park, where the finish line lies.
