Runners are set to follow an out-and-back course along the hilly trails of western North Carolina’s South Mountains State Park at the South Mountains Half Marathon. The course starts off on pavement, and then heads onto dirt trails for an ascent that keeps heading up all the way to the mid-way point of the race, where organizers say the trail peaks around mile 7. From there, the course heads back downhill, and features an extra wide trail for much of the race.
