Runners follow a long, out-and-back course through one of American history’s most iconic moments — the place where George Washington and the Continental army crossed the Delaware River in 1776 on Christmas night to defeat the Hessians in Trenton, N.J. — at the Alternative Half Marathon, which unfolds along the Delaware River on the Delaware & Lehigh Trail. The course starts and finishes in Washington Crossing Park, and from there heads northwest along the Pennsylvania side of the river to the turnaround point just south of New Hope, and from there head back to the park for the race finish.
