Set for its first-ever running in the late winter here along the South Florida peninsula, just north of Everglades National Park and about 40 miles northeast of Naples, the Ave Maria Marathon — which also features a half marathon, 10K, 5K and 1-mile race – starts and finishes on the campus of Ave Maria University, a Catholic liberal arts university here in this master-planned community.
You’ll start the race in front of the Ave Maria Oratory Church, famous for its 30-ft. sculpture depicting the Archangel Gabriel greeting Mary with the words, “Ave Maria.”
From there, the race heads roughly in a clockwise direction around a series of roads that extend out from the campus, including Seton Street, Battlecreek Way, Pope John Paul II Boulevard, Anthem Parkway and Oil Well Road.
The half marathon course reaches its half-way point along Oil Well Road, and from there you’ll head back up Anthem Parkway before heading back to the church, where you’ll complete another, shorter out-and-back stretch before finishing along Pope John Paul II Boulevard.
Thanks to its location, the course is very flat and fast, with only a few feet of elevation change over the course of your 13.1 miles — the route varies between about 15 and 20 feet above sea level the entire way.

Race Weather & Climate
Located in South Florida, about 40 miles northeast of Naples, Ave Maria typically experiences weather like nearby Orangetree, Fla., which means the area has some of its mildest weather of the year in February. Rain is possible year-round.
