Central Florida runners get a chance to wrap up their running season with a first race of the year (typically final race of the year) at the Florida Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, which begins in nearby Clermont and takes runners on a long, winding 13 miles through the park roads and trails within Lake Louisa State Park, just outside Orlando.
The race starts and finishes in Lake Louisa State Park, whose six lakes and roughly 25 miles of trails make it a popular spot for outdoor recreation. Runners should note that because the race takes place inside a state park, they’ll be charged an entry fee when they arrive at the park gates on their way to the race starting line.
Runners in the half marathon start their race at 7:45 AM, followed by those running the 10K and 5K races at 7:55 AM and 8:05 AM, respectively. Medals will be awarded, organizers note, to all finishers in both the half marathon and the 10K.
The race is sponsored and organized by the National Training Center, a 300-acre athletic facility that hosts a number of athletic events throughout the year, from the Florida Half Marathon, 10K & 5K to triathlons, soccer, swimming and aquatics and kids’ sporting events throughout the year.
Organizers note that once you pass through the park’s entry gate (with a $5 cash-only entry fee paid at packet pickup or race day), it will take you about 25 minutes to drive to the parking lot and walk to the starting line — so all entrants are asked to time their travel so they arrive at the start by 7:45 AM.
Race Weather & Climate
Situated in the middle of central Florida, just over a half-hour’s drive west of Orlando, Clermont typically sees mild to moderately cool weather in the early winter, with relatively low precipitation compared to the rest of the year.
On race day (Nov. 11), the average low is 56ºF and the average high is 76ºF.
