A fast and largely flat course around the perimeter of Robins Air Force Base just outside Macon here in central Georgia awaits runners at the Museum of Aviation Foundation Half Marathon, which also includes a full marathon and 5K race that saw just under 1,000 runners cross the finish line in all races combined last year.

The event’s biggest race is the half marathon, which had 463 finishers in 2014 and takes runners on a single loop around the perimeter of the air force base, which was built in the early 1940s during World War II and today is the home of both the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command’s Warner Robins Air Logistics Center and the 78th Air Base Wing.

Though occasionally hilly — especially in the stretch around mile 5 — the half marathon route offers a mostly pleasant run around the base, which lies just minutes from downtown Warner Robins, about 18 miles south of Macon, and about 100 miles south of Atlanta, the biggest metropolitan area nearby.

The 13.1-mile course for the half-marathon race follows a single loop around the base (the full marathon repeats this loop) over paved city and military base roads. The starting and finish lines are near the base’s entry gate, and the post-race walk/cool-down and awards ceremony is held at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation “Century of Flight” hangar.

As with previous years’ races, the 2025 running of the event has been scheduled to coincide with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, which follows the race on Monday, January 17. When runners cross the finish line, their medals will display either an SR-71 ‘Blackbird’ reconnaissance plane (for the full marathon) or an F-15 ‘Eagle’ fighter (for the half marathon).

The course for the race is USATF-certified, and runners will need to bring a photo ID with them to enter the base and the museum’s Century of Flight hangar at registration/packet pickup.
