Saturday, July 27, 2019 • Idaho Falls, ID • Course Map
The scenic beauty of Eastern Idaho’s Upper Snake River Valley, filled with rolling rural hills and snow-capped mountains to the southeast, will be on display for runners at the 9th annual running of Idaho Falls’ Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K race.
Formerly known as the “M.A.D.” Marathon in honor of Donny Osmond’s Make A Difference program — which provides seed funding to people around the country who want to start service projects for those in need in their local areas — the race is one that is geared toward beginner runners, the organizers say, without big hills and with as flat a course as is possible here in Idaho Falls.
Runners will follow a point-to-point route for both the full marathon and the half marathon, which will start at the top of Sunnyside Road to the southeast of Idaho Falls, and follow the course along this road for roughly the first 8 miles into town.
You’ll run past farm houses and communities framed by wide-open farm fields on either side of the road for much of the route, which starts at just over 6,300 feet above sea level and loses more than 1,400 feet by the time you reach the mid-way point of the race, along Sunnyside Road.
The final few miles of the race feature stretches through Tautphaus Park Zoo and Rollandet Park, before crossing over the Snake River to head toward the finish line at the Snake River Landing, just off Panchen Drive and Milligan Road.
