Set for its 10th annual running just as spring is giving way to summer here in the Chicagoland area in mid-June, the Chi Town Half Marathon & 10K race is one of a series of half marathon road races that take place in the Windy City throughout the year called the Chicago Half Marathon Series, organized by the Illinois-based race group All Community Events.
The race is set to follow a USATF-certified, out-and-back course through the city that starts and finishes next to Diversey Harbor in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, whose 1,200 acres lie along the shoreline of Lake Michigan and form the crown jewel of the city’s urban park system.
From there, the race takes runners first south on a loop along the Lakefront Trail, passing by the Lincoln Park Conservatory and the Lincoln Park Zoo as the race heads all the way down to the southern end of the park.
After they make the turn at West LaSalle Drive, next to the Chicago History Museum, runners will then head back north along the park trails, passing by Diversey Harbor again, Belmont Harbor and Montrose Beach, as well as a golf course along the way.
When they’ve made it nearly all the way to Foster Beach inside the park, the course will turn again and head back south along the Lincoln Park trails, past Cricket Hill and the Montrose Nature Area again, and the Diversey Driving Range (made famous in several movies and TV shows) on the way to the finish line next to the boats out in the harbor.
Runners will find entertainment along the course, race organizers add, which will take them on a winding route through the downtown neighborhoods all around the park.
