It might still be cold during mid-March in Chicago, but that doesn’t stop runners from getting outside the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day during Chicago’s Get Lucky Half Marathon, 14K & 7K, which starts and finishes just south of Soldier Field, the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium along Lake Michigan.
Organized by Team Ortho, which organizes similar events in Minneapolis and Dallas/Fort Worth, the Get Lucky events see hundreds of runners cross the finish line every year.
From the start/finish line at Soldier Field, the out-and-back course for the race takes runners along Chicago’s Lakefront Trail. Half marathoners make their way down 6.5 miles of the Lakefront Trail.
Along the way, you’ll pass by attractions such as the McCormick Bird Sanctuary, 31st Street Harbor, Burnham Park, Museum of Science and Industry, and Jackson Park before turning around and retracing their path back to the finish line.
The half marathon time limit is 3.5 hours and is not walker-friendly; however, walkers may participate in the 7K, with a time limit of two hours.
