Zydeco Marathon & Half Marathon

Known as the Hub City to locals, the southern Louisiana town of Lafayette plays host to the Zydeco Marathon & Half Marathon, taking place in March each year.

Both the marathon and half marathon begin in downtown Lafayette on Jefferson Street near the Lafayette Science Museum. From there, half marathoners head left onto West Congress Street for a mile or so before turning near the end of mile 2 at the Cajundome, a multi-purpose arena that houses the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team. The next several miles take runners through a mix of residential neighborhoods and business properties before continuing south on Jefferson Street and toward the University of Louisiana-Lafayette campus.

Midway through the course, runners take in the views of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette campus, making a lap around Girard Park adjacent to the campus. The course continues south toward the half marathon’s southernmost point of running the loop of Beverly Drive before heading north and retracing some of their steps toward the finish line, located near the start of the course.

The half marathon course is open for four hours; the full marathon race is open for six hours. This makes the half marathon race accessible to walkers as well as runners.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in southern Louisiana about 140 miles west of New Orleans and 220 miles east of Houston, TX, Lafayette sees mild to warm spring weather with just under 3.8 inches of precipitation during the month of March.

On race day (Mar. 16), the average low is 52ºF and the average high is 72ºF.
