Ever wanted to visit Canada — or the United States? Run the Bay of Fundy International Half Marathon, and then you can add “run half marathons in two countries” to your list of bragging rights.
The half marathon begins in Canada at Cooks Point, located on the northern section of Campobello Island. From there the course continues north along Lighthouse Road to the northern tip of Campobello Island. Runners turn around at that point, retracing their steps south back down the flat path of Lighthouse Road and past the start line.
The course begins to gain some small rolling hills past mile 5, leading runners along the course near the coast toward the border. The last section of the half marathon features a run through Roosevelt Campobello International Park and the International Roosevelt Memorial Bridge, crossing the border and entering the United States just before the finish line in Lubec, Maine.
Since the half marathon and full marathon take place in both the United States and Canada, runners should make sure they’re able to enter both countries in advance of the race. The events facilitate this by holding packet pickup in the United States and bib pickup in Canada and clearing runners ahead of time. Race organizers note that after the race, runners wishing to travel in the United States or Canada will need to present proper documentation, as the race bib is only good for crossing borders during the race.
