Sunday, September 8, 2019 • Auburn, ME • Course Map
Set for its 8th annual running along the shores of Lake Auburn here in the “Twin Cities” region of southwestern Maine — named for Lewiston and Auburn, the two cities that lie right next to each other along the banks of the Androscoggin River — the Lake Auburn Half Marathon unfolds around the lake and features views of the nearby hills, mountains and forests throughout.
Runners will start the race at the Central Maine Community College campus, which lies on the southeastern side of Lake Auburn.
From there, runners will head away from the campus and then north along Turner Street for the first mile of the race. Once they make it past the first mile, the course turns onto Turner Road, and then onto Lake Shore Drive, taking runners out of the more inhabited areas of the course.
The course features a brief stretch of forests and then opens up to the water again along much of Lake Shore Drive as runners head north toward the northern point of Lake Auburn. After reaching the northern point of Lake Auburn, the course continues north along a brief forested stretch of Holbrook Road before reaching the midpoint and turnaround point of the race.
The second half of the race takes runners south along the western side of Lake Auburn and the most scenic section of the race, following Whitman Spring Road for the next three miles and then south along West Auburn Road toward the southern part of the lake–and the hilliest section of the course along Summer Street and Gracelawn Road, featuring a downhill stretch just before a brief uphill stretch to the finish line back at the Central Main Community College campus.
