Lake Auburn Half Marathon & 5K

Sunday, September 9, 2018 • Auburn, ME • Course Map

runsignup-blueSet for its 7th annual running along the shores of Lake Auburn here in the “Twin Cities” region of southwestern Maine — named for Lewiston and Auburn, the two cities that lie right next to each other along the banks of the Androscoggin River — the Lake Auburn Half Marathon unfolds around the lake and features views of the nearby hills, mountains and forests throughout.

Runners will start the race at the Lost Valley Ski Area, which lies at the base of the mountain on the western side of Lake Auburn.

From there, runners will head south on the entrance road to Youngs Corner Road, where they’ll turn left and head east until they reach Summer Street, where they turn left and head north.

The next stretch is where the race’s most scenic stretches begin, as the course heads north along West Auburn Road for a brief stretch and then onto Whitman Springs Road, which runners will follow for the next three miles all the way to the northern end of the lake.

Trees will line the lakeshore road on either side, bringing runners closest to the water as they’re approaching the mile 4 marker and then again just before the turn onto North Auburn Road.

At North Auburn Road, the course turns right and brings runners around the northern tip of the lake for about half a mile, and then turns right to head south on Lake Shore Drive. Along this road, runners will get a better view of the lake, as the course stays close to the water for roughly a mile around the mile 6 point, just as they’re reaching the half-way point of the race.

After a brief tree-lined stretch after the mid-way point, the course opens up to the water again between miles 6 and 7, and features rolling hills interspersed with flat stretches through here.

Once they make it to mile 8, the course turns onto Turner Road, taking runners out of the forested section and into more inhabited parts of Lake Auburn.

The course crosses over the levee at Turner Road and then heads south into Town along Turner Street, giving runners the race’s steepest hill as they’re approaching the turn onto Gracelawn Road from Turner, just as they’re passing by St. Dominic Academy.

The course then flattens out again as it heads west along Mount Auburn Avenue and Summer Street, bringing runners west back toward Lost Valley for the race finish.
