Whether you’ve run one half marathon, ten half marathons, or this is your first rodeo, you’ve never run a halfsy until running the Good Life Halfsy in Lincoln, according to the Good Life Halfsy organizers. This half marathon, which takes its name from a state of Nebraska nickname, claims a unique and friendly race, with surprises waiting on every corner while offering a tour of Lincoln’s greatest sights.
The Good Life Halfsy begins at Seacrest Field, located adjacent to Lincoln East High School, and then continues south along South 70th Street for two miles after starting the course around the campus. The next turn on the course takes runners around Holmes Lake Dog Park and the surrounding roads over the next two miles.
The half marathon, which is a net downhill and point-to-point course, really starts going downhill at this point as runners continue north along South 70th Street and then turning left onto Holmes North Shore Road along Holmes Lake. This section of the course comes with waterfront views of the lake before turning onto Normal Boulevard and continuing west.
Get used to Normal Boulevard because the next several miles consist of running northwest along this road, connecting several Lincoln neighborhoods and passing the Sunken Gardens and Neighbors Park, among other local attractions. By the time runners start heading north onto the Rock Island Trail, over eight miles have elapsed on the course, and the finish line is now closer than ever.
The course continues north for two more miles on the Rock Island Trail, now running through Trago Park and the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus before turning around just north of the campus and heading west along New Hampshire Street, then south past Haymarket Park and coasting to the finish line. Be sure to watch for yourself on the Cube, where the race organizers will be displaying each finisher as they complete the course and getting the post-race party started.
