You’ll get to run your final four miles entirely along the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk at this year’s inaugural running of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Atlantic City Half Marathon, the latest entrant in the music-themed race series, where you’ll get to take in the casinos, amusement park rides, Ferris wheel and more.
Runners will be able to choose between a 5K race on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday, whose 13.1 miles start at Bader Field, which once was a general-use aviation airport between Chelsea Heights and the Atlantic City Expressway.
And because it’s an old airport, your first mile will be run on its runways, up and back before you turn onto Albany Avenue. After you make the turn, you’ll follow it for the next couple of miles, across a pair of bridges, to the first turnaround point, just before you reach West Atlantic City.
After you make the turn, you’ll head back south and east along Albany Avenue again, making a brief turn off the road on Great Island before joining back up with it again. Next, you’re heading toward the Atlantic Ocean coastline, across the Albany Avenue Drawbrige and toward O’Donnell Memorial Park.
At Atlantic Avenue — don’t these street names sound familiar, by the way, like you remember them from the Monopoly board game? — you’ll take a right and head west, running straight through Ventnor City until you reach South Washington Avenue.
At this intersection, you’ll take a left and head toward the shoreline, turning left again to hop onto the boardwalk. And once you’re on the boardwalk, you’ll follow it for the next four miles until you reach the race finish line near the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and the Ocean Resort Casino.
