Located on the heart of North Carolina’s Pleasure Island, the Carolina Beach State Park Trail Half Marathon & 5K brings a fast, flat, and beautiful course to runners seeking personal records or qualification for future races.
The half marathon course begins in downtown Carolina Beach along Carolina Boulevard, next to Carolina Beach Elementary School. After that, runners head north along Dow Road into the eastern section of Carolina Beach State Park, toward Snow’s Cut and looping through a residential neighborhood.
From there, runners continue south and west toward Carolina Beach State Park, looping through the park before continuing south along the half marathon course toward the halfway point.
Once past the halfway point of the half marathon, runners keep going south along Dow Road, passing residential areas in Kure Beach before heading back north toward the finish line.
The time limit for the half marathon is 3 hours, 30 minutes, or 16 minutes per mile.

Located on the southeastern coast of North Carolina, Carolina Beach experiences cool weather in January, with nearly 4 inches of rain on average for the month.
On race day (Jan. 2), the average low is 44ºF and the average high is 55ºF.
