Bull City isn’t just a nickname for Durham, North Carolina — it’s also the name of Durham’s Bull City Race Fest Half Marathon & 5-Miler, which takes place in October each year.
The half marathon and 5-miler begin at the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham. From there, half marathoners head north, weaving through downtown Durham for the first mile of the course before heading west and weaving through the Trinity Park neighborhood. The trip through Trinity Park concludes near the halfway point of the half marathon with a run through Duke University’s East Campus, the original location of the university.
The second half of the course takes runners through Duke’s central campus via Campus Drive, then through the Duke Forest and Forest Hills neighborhoods before crossing the finish line back at the American Tobacco Campus.
Runners not up to running the full half marathon may take part in the 5-mile run or the 1-mile fun run. Participants in the half marathon and 5-miler must maintain a 15:00 mile pace throughout the race.
