Pinehurst Turkey Trot Half Marathon, 10K, 5K & 1-Mile

Thursday, November 16, 2017 • Pinehurst, NC • Course Map

Runners get the chance to trek through the streets and residential neighborhoods of the village of Pinehurst in the Sandhills region of central North Carolina at the Turkey Trot Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and one-mile race, which marks its 37th annual running on the Thursday before Thanksgiving.

If you’re a fan of golf, just the word “Pinehurst” will be enough to evoke memories of Phil Mickelson’s narrow, one-shot loss to Payne Stewart here at the 1999 United States Open golf championship, which was played on the legendary Pinehurst No. 2 course.

Pinehurst again hosted the U.S. Open in 2005, when New Zealand’s Michael Campbell walked away with the trophy, and hosts the Open for a fourth time in 2015.

The race — which is organized and hosted by First Health of the Carolinas hospitals — will follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes in Cannon Park, which lies just to the north of the famed golf course where the Open is played.

From there, the course winds through mostly residential neighborhood streets of the village of Pinehurst and the Pinehurst Resort. In the stretches around the middle miles of the race, golf fans will find the street names quite familiar, as they run along Burning Tree Road, Diamondhead Drive and St. Andrews Drive.

Runners can expect much of the course to offer ample shade, as the route will make its way largely through residential areas as well as around stretches of Pinehurst Lake, and past several fairways within the neighborhoods that make up the golf resort.

The course is certified by USATF-RRTC (USA Track and Field, Road Running Technical Council).

I see this problem time and again.
Please don’t advertise your event as if everyone is a local.
    Where is the Village Arboretum?
