OctoHalf Half Marathon

Saturday, October 5, 2019 • Hatfield, PA • Course Map

Set for its 5th annual running here in this small southern Pennsylvania township this fall, the all-new OctoHalf Half Marathon features an out-and-back loop course that starts and finishes near the center of town at Hatfield Community Park, and features mostly fast and flat paved surfaces, tree-lined roads and a few park pathways mixed in.

The race is the first for this small community of just over 3,200 residents in Pennsylvania’s Montgomery County, which lies less than an hour’s drive from Philadelphia and roughly two hours from New York City.

Runners will start the half marathon on Chestnut Street next to Hatfield Community Park and the Hatfield Aquatic Center, and from there head in a southeast direction through town, turning here and there along mostly residential streets, many of which feature plentiful mature trees looking over the roads.

To give you an idea of the elevation change, the highest point of the race lies at just over 350 feet above sea level while the lowest is just above 270 feet, so the race organizers accurately describe this as a mostly fast and very flat course — more than 90 percent of it takes place on paved surfaces, though there is a stretch of about 50 yards on grass through the grounds of a local nursery near the end of the race.

Both runners and walkers are welcome, organizers add — thanks to the half marathon’s 4-hour course time limit, you’ll need to keep a pace of 18 minutes, 19 seconds per mile, which should make it an event that most people who plan to walk the race would feel comfortable entering.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in southeastern Pennsylvania, just over 30 miles north from downtown Philadelphia, Hatfield typically sees mild to cool and occasionally quite cold weather in October, which has brought record temperatures here as low as 10ºF (in 1987) and as high as 91ºF (in 2007).

On race day (Oct. 5), the average low is 44ºF and the average high is 68ºF.
