active-reg-buttonFast and flat, the Berry Dairy Days Half Marathon — which also features a 10K and 5K race — in Burlington, Washington is a terrific course for a new PR. The small number of entrants mean less time winding through the crowds and more time to race for a fast finish.

Located in the heart of Skagit Valley and only 60 miles from Seattle, Burlington has great small town appeal, combined with the Skagit River on the west side of town, which offers scenic views for racers throughout the middle section of the course.

Runners will convene at the corner of Fairhaven Avenue and Oak Street to line up at the starting line. The first mile will head due east on Fairhaven Avenue, taking runners from the town center through a more residential portion of town. Right before the first mile marker, runners will take a left turn onto Gardner Road.

After a few blocks, runners will make a left onto Lafayette Road and make their way further out of town. A hydration station is located just before the second mile marker. The course runs parallel to Cascade Highway, aptly named for the Cascade Mountains that surround Burlington to the east.

Right after mile marker 3, runners will be able to take advantage of the second hydration station and then they make a right turn onto Sterling Road. This stretch of the race will take runners down to the shoreline of the Skagit River.

The river is home to five species of salmon and two kinds of trout. Additionally, it supports the largest wintering bald eagle population in the continental United States.

Once racers get to the end of Sterling Road, they will loop back on the course for another 2 1/2 miles. There is another hydration station located at the loop turn. Following Sterling Road to Lafayette Road, they will make a left turn at around the halfway point and follow the path parallel to the Skagit River.

The next five miles unfold along the river on a beautiful portion of the course, down to where it intersects with Whitmarsh Road and makes a small loop to return back to town. A water stop is located at the loop.

Runners will begin to head back to town, and the finish line, once they turn onto Gardner Road. Mile marker 12 is just before Sunset Drive. The final 1.1 miles will take runners back to Fairhaven Avenue where they will race towards the finish line and collect their medals.

Race Weather & Climate
